As Chairman I wish to echo the Chaplain's welcome all to this liturgical and musical gem in Edinburgh. We resumed in house worship as early in 2022 as we safely could. The Rev. Dr. Iain C Barclay had joined us in August 2021 following a year when I had responsibility for the ongoing worship at first in person and latterly on line for which we owe a great debt of gratitude to our then Director of music, James Slimings, whose career took him to London. We had the benefit of a number of distinguished preachers from various parts of the world occupying our 'virtual pulpit' Dr Barclay has introduced a welcome and distinctive liturgy and with his vast experience as a parish minister and Army Chaplain brings singular gifts to his ministry with us. Paul Gudgin has joined us as Director of Music and brings his vast experience in choral music and in organising Festivals (including his time as Director of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and has bonded well with the choir bringing them to new heights. We have an enthusiastic and talented choir of eight permanent Lay Clerks and a number of outstanding occasional Choristers. The standard is extremely high and my only regret is that more people have not had the opportunity to experience the combination of liturgy and liturgical music so the Trustees are working on considering sharing this exceptional talent with a wider public through broadcasting. At Christmas the Choir had a concert of great quality at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Our Service of Remembrance was unique in that we had a delegation of four from Kutenholz, Lower Saxony where, in May, I had the privilege along with the local Lutheran Pastor of dedicating a series of War Memorials including one in memory of Lieutenant Robin Tudsbery and his men. Eight other British families of deceased servicemen were present. Frau Debbie Bülau, a local historian, had masterminded the project and spoke movingly. The Choir sang very movingly in German.
